Auscol first to gain industry accreditation

In Australia we rely heavily on our meat industry.  In order to protect the industry, government bodies have put in place a voluntary "ruminant-to-ruminant" feed ban. The aim of the ban is to eliminate giving ruminant animals feed that has been manufactured from slaughtered ruminants. The Used Cooking Oils and Fats sector represents a significant component of the feed industry and is a potential area where ruminant material could re-enter the food chain.

To encourage uptake of the feed bans by recyclers, the Australian Renderers' Association (ARA) developed a Code of Practice titled Accreditation of Establishments for the Collection, Processing and Recycling of Fats and Oils in 2001. This places stringent conditions on recyclers that ensure they play their part in reducing the risk of this disease entering the food chain in Australia.

After months of implementing quality systems, Auscol
(Laverton North) became Australia's first accredited facility on 11 April 2005.

The Code of Practice requires Auscol to run a quality
system, instigate a HACCP program, offer full traceability of oil sources, document the recycling program and conduct regular pesticide monitoring.

This reinforces Auscol
's position as the leader in its field.  Auscol was the first recycler in the Australian market, then the first to offer a national service, the first to introduce hygienic bulk bins, the first to offer environmentally friendly vacuum tankers and are now the first to offer recycled product from an ARA-accredited facility.

New Auscol Oil Kaddy System®

Oil Kaddy System tank

The Oil Kaddy System uses a caddy that can be wheeled from the shop to the storage tank.

The storage tank is made from a translucent plastic material.

A pump inside the tank sucks the used oil from the Kaddy into the tank, avoiding messy spills and contamination.

The Kaddy has a low profile design that allows it to be stored away under the fryer or beneath the inside tank.  This reduces the floor space required in a shop or restaurant.

The Oil Kaddy System has the following features:

    SAFETY
    • Eliminates burns associated with handling hot oils,
    • Reduces the chances of slips and falls from greasy floors,
    • Fewer opportunities for accidents from slippery pavement, and
    • The unique translucent polymer tank allows you to view the tank level at all times.

    SAVINGS
    • Proven labour savings,
    • Reduced Workers' Compensation claims from burns, slips and falls,
    • Fewer washings needed for garbage and/or storage areas, and
    • Patented low-watt heater for low running costs.

    SANITATION
    • No messy cleanup of buckets or pails, and
    • Maintain a clean, non-greasy floor.

    SECURITY
    • Employees are not required to go outside to dispose of spent oils.
